There are multiple ways to sanitize a glass fermenter: bleach, StarSan and Iodophor.
Bleach is the cheapest solution dilute it at a ratio of one tablespoon of bleach with one gallon of water and let soak for 20 minutes and then rinse.
Star San was developed especially for sanitizing brewing equipment. 30 seconds of contact time is sufficient for sanitizing and it does not require rinsing. Dilute it at a ratio of one fluid ounce per 5 gallons of water.
Iodophor can be diluted at a ratio of one tablespoon per 5 gallons of water and sanitation is complete within a 2 minute contact time. Iodophor will stain plastic with long soak times.
